A damaged leaf does not automatically mean a crop needs spraying. Insects, disease, nutrient problems and growing conditions can produce symptoms that look similar.

Identify the problem first

Take clear photographs and record the crop, its growth stage, affected area and how quickly the problem is spreading. Ask a qualified crop adviser for help where identification is uncertain.

Check the product and label

PCPB provides information on registered pest control products locally. Verify the exact product and its approved use rather than relying only on a familiar brand name. Read the label for the crop, target problem, application directions and precautions.

Plan for safe application

Use the protective equipment specified on the label. Follow instructions on mixing, application conditions, re-entry and the interval before harvest. These requirements vary between products; there is no single rule for every spray.

Keep a treatment record showing the date, field and product used. Store chemicals securely in their original containers and follow approved disposal instructions. Never reuse pesticide containers for food or water.
